GeoChronicles is a private hobby project. This app does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to its own servers. There is no user account, no login, and no own backend server. External servers from CARTO and OpenStreetMap are used for map display (see below).
The app accesses your device’s location solely to provide the geocaching functionality:
All app data (found geocaches, preferences, offline maps) is stored locally on your device only. There are no own servers for data storage, no cloud sync, and no external storage of your app data.
The only automatic external connection this app makes is to download map imagery from CARTO (based on OpenStreetMap). During these requests, the following data is transmitted: The public IP address of your internet connection and coordinates (latitude and longitude) of the displayed map area. If you center the map on your location, these coordinates may reveal your approximate whereabouts. No other data is transmitted and no cookies are set. After downloading offline maps once, you can use the map functionality without any further network connections. Note: External links in the app (e.g., to license, privacy pages, or references in geocache descriptions) open your browser and require an internet connection.
CARTO’s privacy policy can be found at: https://carto.com/privacy
You have full control over your data. Delete all app data by clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling. After downloading offline maps once, you can use the app completely offline with no network connections. Note: External links in the app (e.g., to license, privacy pages, or references in geocache descriptions) still require an internet connection.
This is a private enthusiast project created for exploring Vienna’s history through geocaching.
